At a Court of Probate Held in Woodbury April the 11th 1769 the Executor on the Last Will and Testament of Gamaliel Terrill Late of Waterbury Decesd appeared and Exhibited sd Will in order to its approbation. Whichbeing Read and Considered and no Objection Made against it was allowed & approved and accepted to be Recorded and is as followeth
In the Name of God Amen ~
This thirteenth Day of November AD 1761, I Gamaliel Terrill of Waterbury in the County of NewHaven in Connecticut being of an Advanced age tho of sound mind and memory Thanks be given to God therefor, Calling to mind the mortalitly of my Body and that it is appointed for all men once to Die Do therefore Constitute make and appoint this my Last Will and Testament and that is to say Principally and first of all I Give and Recomend my soul into the hands of Gods Mercy thro the merrits of a glorious Redeemer and my Body I Recomend to the Earth to be Buried in Decent and Christian manner at the Discretion of my Executors hereafter Named. Nothing Doubting but that I shall at the General Resurrection Receive the same again by the almighty Power of God and as Touching such Worldly Estate wherewith it hath Pleased God to bless me in this Life: I Give Devise & Dispose of the Same in manner and form following that is to Say I Give and bequeath to my Dearly beloved Wife Elizabeth Terril (Whome together with my well beloved Son Benjamin Terrill I Constitute and appoint my Executrix and Executor of this my last Will and Testament) two Rooms at the Eastward End of my Dwelling House with one Third Part of the Celler under sd house and one third part of all the Rest of my Real Estate to be for her use and Improvement During her Natural Life and one third part of my moveable or personall Estate to be at her Dispose forever. all which is to be in Lieu of all her Rights of Dower in my Estate.
Item. I Give and bequeath to my Well beloved ^grand Son Matthew Terrill five acres of Land which I have on the Northwest side of the Highway which goes from my Dwelling House to Zebulion Scotts and six acres off from the East End of my ten acre piece at the Stepp hill so called. sd piece being bounded south on the sequester line & the other parts as may appear per Record and [___] which I purchased of his Fathers Estate. I having hereto fore payed for his maintainince til he was four years of age & paid larger Debts which his father Contracted in his Life time.
Item. I Give and bequeath to my four well beloved Children viz: Benjamin Terrill, Amos Terrill, Elizabeth Terrill and Mercy Terrill all the Remaining [part] of my Estate both Real and Personal to be Equally Divided between them according to Inventory Apprizement the personall Estate being Divided into the parts of my my [sic] two Daughters above Named.
and I Do hereby utterly Revoak and Disanul and make void all former Wills,Testaments Bequeaths & Executors heretofore Willed bequeathed or Named Ratifying and Confirming this and no other to be my Last will and Testament; In Witness Whereof I have here unto Set my hand and Seal the Day and Date above Written Signed, Sealed Published and Declared by the above Named Gamaliel Terrill to be his Last will & Testament in Presence of us<
